1 Performance considerations
Internet browsers: should be used by learners to assess the changes in appearance
of websites, depending on the code used to produce the pages. In a similar fashion,
by use of examples, learners should be encouraged to assess web pages using
different VDU screen sizes and resolution settings
Download times: of web pages depending on the speed of internet/intranet connection
and the size of the files downloaded from the site
Internet/intranet connection types: ISDN, ADSL, telephone modem, Broadband,
LAN.
2 User requirements
Different user requirements: dissemination of information, e-commerce, downloading
software, gathering of information
Feedback: techniques used to assess a site's fitness for purpose, user satisfaction
Site life cycle: regular site maintenance to improve usefulness and relevance.
3 Development and promotion of websites
Getting noticed: registering with search engines, use of Meta tags, getting
into the 'top ten' in a web search; free advertising through newsgroups; making
sure your URL is on all company documents
Getting 'bookmarked': techniques for ensuring repeat business: free software
downloads, evaluation software, pictures, product data, search engine, access
to staff contacts.
4 Documentation
Website development: storyboarding a website before coding takes place, action-plan
for producing a site
Linking models and technique: linear, hierarchy or matrix
Organisation: naming techniques of files stored on a web server, management
of web files
