I started playing the accordion when I was about 8, it was an old octave and half with 8 bass buttons. I purchased my first accordion when I was 12, a 120 bass, but I always wanted to play the organ. About 20 years ago I was allowed to buy my first organ, a Yamaha Electronic HS4. I had very few lessons, but I could manage to play for amusement. Later I upgraded the machine to the top of the range Yamaha HS8. In 2006 after looking at many organs, and trying to find one that sounded like an English Church organ, I managed to purchase a new Eminent Alpha 3 manual electronic organ, 54 stops, with a full pedal board. I took some lessons with Simon Pusey, the Director of Music at St Mary's Church and a tutor with the New School of Organ Studies.

My sons have both started to play (now that they can reach the pedals). My lessons have been put on hold, although I still learn a lot from Simon when I take the kids for their lessons. I play largely for enjoyment. I am mastering the pedals, but still the art of playing 2 hands and 2 feet at the same time is still slowing me down. My lessons now happen when one of the kids miss one of their lessons.

Much to some peoples annoyance I still have the HS organs, one for playing other sounds and instruments, and the other is plugged into the computer, so that it can act as a keyboard for Haupwerk and other various digital organs that I have on the computer.

Other church Organs - when I get the opportunity

My wife seems to think that I am improving. She can recognise the tunes that I am playing and can even sing along with them, although not in the same room as anyone listening to me seems to make me play worse. Even if I think people are listening, things go wrong.

All the photographs in this section are taken by my son. I asked him to take a couple of photos of me. 220 photos later I stopped him.

My choice of music is quite wide, from classical to many popular songs.
