P3 identify the main advantages of websites for users
P4 prepare a plan to promote a website
P5 demonstrate the ability to set up a website
P6 specify hardware and software requirements.
You must demonstrate evidence of planning

To achieve a merit, all the pass criteria must be met and all the following criteria must also be met:

M1 understand the effect of the user's web browser and screen size have upon the appearance of web pages
M2 understand the circumstances when technologies such as Active Server Pages, JavaScript, Java Applets, XML, etc are required
M3 understand how websites should be managed in terms of updating, development and organisation.
This means that you have also made a good attempt at implementation

To achieve a distinction all these criteria must be met in addition to all the above criteria

D1 evaluate in detail the effect that the user's browser software has on the final appearance web pages
D2 evaluate in detail the effect of download time relation to large website files
D3 evaluate critically an existing website in terms of performance and fitness for purpose.

To achieve a pass grade, observation and detailed witness testimonies should be a prime source of evidence for the practical tasks associated with the building and development of a website. There should be some evidence of planning and design before an attempt at implementation. Stating the basic concepts and evidence of checking accuracy may be done by written evidence or by oral questioning reported and signed by the tutor.

To achieve a merit grade, learners must produce detailed designs and plans for a website together with a good attempt at implementation. They should demonstrate that they have studied how their designs will look on different browsers.

To achieve a distinction grade learners will have completed the tasks as for pass and merit level, but in addition will have carried out a critical performance evaluation to determine areas for improvement in their website design. Their site will be a complete and polished production. They will understand the techniques used to achieve maximum publicity and will have included software to monitor 'hits'.
